World Mental Health Day 2020
World Mental Health Day is observed annually around the globe on 10 October. Since 1992, the global community unites on this day to raise awareness and reduce the stigma that surrounds people with mental health problems worldwide. Each year, World Mental Health Day celebrates a different theme set by the World Federation for Mental Health. This year’s theme for World Mental Health Day is ‘Mental Health for All: Greater Investment, Greater Access. Everyone, everywhere.’
In line with this year’s theme, Mental Health Europe hosted a high-level seminar on the future of mental health, rights, and recovery in Europe. The event brought together key actors to discuss how to turn the COVID-19 crisis into a catalyst for change in European mental health. In the follow-up, MHE published key recommendations for action to help the EU and its member states to scale up mental health support both now and for the future.
To celebrate World Mental Health Day on 10 October, Mental Health Europe is also delighted to share 110 tips for positive mental health during the pandemic. This year MHE launched the first European Mental Health Week (4-10 May) and asked people how they are coping with difficulties during the coronavirus crisis. Check out a collection of their best tips.
On this day, join the global community to raise awareness about the importance of mental health. Post, share, talk publicly and spread the word. Use any of these hashtags on social media and keep important conversations going:
The pandemic is an invaluable reminder of the importance of looking after our mental health.
We should not shy away from asking for help – be it for ourselves, for a family member, a friend or colleague.

#WorldMentalHealthDay is this Saturday, 10 October. But we must remember that this isn’t a one-day event.
To cushion the blow of the pandemic, we must scale up our efforts & make #mentalhealth a core element in the response and recovery after a crisis. https://t.co/HWMHEVLC5H pic.twitter.com/OocFTn3ryo

This #WorldMentalHealthDay, once again we take the time to reflect on how important it is to take care of our mental health.
Awareness is essential – absolutely, #EndTheStigma – but more pressingly, resources to treat mental illness must be more widely available and affordable. https://t.co/puwdovv2h9
