Register now: “Medicating Normal” film screening & discussion

Mental Health Europe (MHE) invites you to a virtual screening of the film “Medicating Normal”, followed by an interactive discussion.

To shed a spotlight on over-medicalisation in mental healthcare, MHE would like to invite you to discuss the lack of transparency between the pharmaceutical industry and the healthcare sector.

The event will take place online from 18:30 to 20:45 CET on Thursday 19 November 2020.

The award-winning documentary film “Medicating Normal” explores the reliance of our current mental healthcare systems on psychiatric drugs to deal with trauma, grief, and distress. Medicating Normal follows the journeys of a newly married couple, a female combat veteran, a waitress, and a teenager. They struggle with serious physical and mental side-effects as well as neurological damage which resulted from taking drugs as prescribed. It is the untold story of the disastrous consequences that can occur when profit-driven medicine intersects with human beings in distress.

There will be a panel discussion immediately after the film, followed by a Q&A session. Panelists include:

  • Prof. Peter Kinderman, Professor of Clinical Psychology at the University of Liverpool, and a Chartered Clinical Psychologist
  • Prof. David Klemperer, Doctor of Internal Medicine, Professor of Social Medicine and Public Health Member of the Drug Commission of the German Medical Association and its Expert Committee for Transparency and Independence in Medicine
  • Angela Peacock, MSW, activist, and subject of the film
  • Stevie Lewis, Mental health advocate
  • Dominique De Marné, Mental health advocate, writer, social entrepreneur

The discussion will be hosted by Marcin Rodzinka of Mental Health Europe. To attend, please register below.

There is a general admission fee of 10 USD. You can also choose a donation ticket (of 1 USD or more), which will serve as a regular ticket. However, if you are unable to pay at this time, please send an email to medicatingnormal@gmail.com for a free scholarship ticket. Donations from this screening will go to Periscope Foundation, a nonprofit organisation that funds the outreach efforts to bring the film and conversations like this one to communities worldwide and a portion will be given back to MHE.
