Update on the Work-Life-Balance Directive
Further to the civil society’s Joint Statement that MHE contributed to which called for a swift progress on the Work-Life Balance Directive, the Employment, Social Policy, Health and Consumer Affairs Council(EPSCO) has finally adopted the progress report of the proposal for a Directive on work-life balance.
What happens next in the Council?
The report has now been adopted by the Council of the European Union. The Estonian presidency issued its progress report on the directive HERE and the file will now be taken over by the Bulgarian Presidency of the EU which will start in January 2018.
What happens next in the European Parliament?
In the meantime, the European Parliament has assigned its rapporteur and shadow rapporteurs for the file, more information HERE and the European Parliament’s Employment and Social Affairs Committee will organise a public hearing on the directive on work-life balance on 21 February 2018.
This joint statement is part of MHE’s broader advocacy for the directive on work-life balance and calls for a swift adoption of the directive possibly by the end of 2018.
