MHE becomes a member of the European Commission’s Expert Group on Disability – The Disability Platform
MHE received confirmation from the European Commission that it has become a member Expert Group on Disability – The Disability Platform.
This Platform was first introduced in the European Strategy for the Rights of Persons with Disabilities 2021-2030 and launched by the European Commission earlier this year. The Platform replaces the High-Level Group on Disability and will support the implementation of disability strategies at the European and national levels. It will also facilitate cooperation between the Commission, Members, and assist the Commission in the preparation of disability-related initiatives and facilitate the exchange of good practices.
MHE is glad to have been selected as a member of the Platform. We believe this will allow for the better integration of psychosocial disability and mental health in the future work of the Commission, as well as give a forum for persons with lived experiences to share their needs and concerns. Additionally, given the increasing relevance of mental health following the outbreak of the COVID-19 pandemic, MHE’s membership in the Disability Platform will allow the mainstreaming of mental health and well-being and to ensure an inclusive COVID-19 response for persons with disabilities in general.
The Disability Platform, in addition to the representatives of the 27 Member States, will include 14 members, all appointed on grounds of their high-level expertise in disability issues and their representativeness of relevant stakeholders (i.e. EU-level civil society organisations representing persons with disabilities, other relevant civil society organisations, as well as providers of services for persons with disabilities).
