MHE submits interventions to General Discussion on the Right of Persons with Disabilities to Work and Employment
The Committee on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities is holding a day of general discussion on Article 27 of the United Nations Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities (UN CRPD) today on 22 March 2021. This discussion revolves around the right to work and employment and its outcomes will feed into the General Comment that the Committee is preparing on the subject.
General Comments are important documents issued by the Committee to provide guidelines for the interpretation and implementation of given Articles of the UN CRPD. General Comments also clarify the obligations that State parties have when enforcing and monitoring the Convention. As both the European Union (EU) and all its Member States have signed and ratified the UN CRPD, the content of General Comments is an important tool to influence the implementation of the Convention and ensure that the rights of persons with psychosocial disabilities are fully captured.
Having worked on the topic for many years, Mental Health Europe (MHE) is glad to contribute to the discussion on the General Comment on the right to work and employment both through a written submission and an oral intervention presented by the Senior Policy Advisor, Bob Grove.
